I was a little late for class so I missed what was taught. But I was in time to do the questionnaire. I think this was the last lesson that we were in for this course. It was good being in this class with Mr. Akayoglu. I really enjoyed the things I learned. Hope we get good grades from the finals, so we can graduate with bright smiles.
Secondlife. I used to play sims. When I was younger, of course. Now it seems like a waste of time. But SecondLife is different in this manner. It has an educational purpose. But here’s the thing; I used to play SecondLife. And It made me pay extra 100 TL for my limited internet access. My computer isn’t that good for playing games, so I had to give my money for nothing and I didn’t get to play much. Whatever. I have unlimited internet access now but I really don’t want to play. Because of the people. You never know what kind of conversation you’re getting in. I can log in if I am informed that there will be a meeting or something. But I would DEFINITELY not use SecondLife for my students.
Website! I always wanted a website for my own. If I remember right, I made a website and published it through one of the free website creator sites. I can’t remember well because it was ages ago. But I was always curious about it. So I was quite happy to learn about weebly. It’s easy to create and publish. I didn’t make changes after we left the class. Because I didn’t have the time or the idea. I’m thinking to make a website for my team. That’s one idea. And for myself, I don’t know, maybe, I can post some delicious recipes of mine. Or if I become a teacher I can post the homeworks and socrative links etc. So the students will be aware of the things we did in the classroom if they’re sick or they just forgot what we did. I actually have a question. I couldn’t ask it during the class. Mr. Akayoglu said that it costs 5 liras to buy a website with “.com” at the end. How is this possible. Who do we pay for this and how? Just even thinking about it gives me the chills, in a good way. If anybody reading this has an answer, please feel free to contact me. You can write to me from my weebly.com address. To future me: put this oppurtunity of getting a website in your name in good use.
I knew what podcast is and I’ve been using it for a long time now. I used to listen to Bay J when he was in Virgin Radio. But I guess he is a changed man after he got married and took a job at Capital Radio. I don’t enjoy his conversation anymore. Instead I listen to Cem Arslan’s Gazoz Agaci on Best fm. I listen to him in the mornings and if I miss it, I’ll just listen to him on his podcast. So my point is podcasts are useful for free time. But I didn’t think that it could be used for educational purposes. Audioboo proved me wrong. It’s an user-friendly site like facebook and/or twitter. Going through the website, I realized that podcasts could be used for anything. I was planning on making a program on a radio. I can practice it here. I can hear my own voice and maybe change my voice to make it better. And for my students, I can ask them to record themselves talking about a topic and I can grade their speaking skills. If there are weak students on speaking skills, I can find them more useful activities for their speaking skill to improve. And for ELT podcast; the visual material on the website is boring. The material could be good, but the website should be upgraded or something. Whatever. Listening materials are hard to find but easy to teach. I’ll look for the best listening material even if it takes me ages to find the perfect one.
We all know that it’s realy hard to find digital material for the class that we’re teaching. Well this week’s topic ruled that problem out. Thanks to story nory, story jumper and dfilm; I no longer will have struggle finding visual material on YouTube. If there is none, I’ll just make it myself. Only problem is that it takes time to prepare. For example: I tried to do a really short story on story jumper and it took me more than half an hour just to get done at least the half of the work. Whatever. I am taking notes on these websites. I’ll put them in good use when needed.
I tried to embed the prezi. But I failed. So I copied the link.
My name is Ismet Cavusoglu. I was born and raised in Istanbul. This is my last year in Bolu. I hope. (Insallah) I like basketball, american football and listening to music. I like interacting with people. I’m not good at it but at least I try to. I like cheese. I love all delicious food. I exercise everyday. It keeps me motivated. I live alone with my cat. He entertains me whenever I’m sad or not feeling to do anything. I guess that’s it. If you want to know more about me, feel free to contact me at anytime.
About nicenet; I didn’t like it. Maybe it is because that it doesn’t appeal to me visually. But I can use dokeos and/or edmodo. But if you ask me: I would use facebook for my students, if I am ever going to use a site for my classes. Because everybody is on facebook now. And if you create a group, you can do all kinds of things there. But if I were to use dokeos or edmodo, students and I will have to look for that website as extra. Only positive use of edmodo aside from facebook is that, I can assign homeworks and a deadline. I can check who did what homework, when did they turn it in etc. And only students in my class can see what is shared. Facebook is dangerous about that topic. And about prezi. I’ve seen it before. I had some friends presenting their work on prezi, but this is actually the first time that I learned how to use it. This week’s task is on prezi and I hope I’ll do it right. Because it is very attention keeping presentation program but it seems hard to prepare it. If it were to be a program on my computer. I guess it’ll be easier. But I have no money to give them. So I’ll just do the best I can.
